In Ireland
"Normal" telephone line based Broadband is even now still
not available in some areas of the country (mostly rural areas).
For those people the only remaining option is usually Satellite
Broadband.
Satellite equipment purchase and Installation costs have reduced
in recent years - but still are fairly costly
The one-way satellite systems are not recommended - you need a constant
telephone dial up connection as well as the satellite.
Two-way satellite systems are the best option - it frees up
your telephone line (or removes the need for one) and cuts out any
spend on dial up internet.
In 2011 a company called Tooway have started pushing their satellite
broadband services in Ireland.
Digiweb and Onwave are other companies that offer satellite broadband
in Ireland - but hey appear to be just reselling the Tooway service.
(Digiweb though can't seem to get the spelling right (Satelitte !)
Prices from all 3 providers are similar - For example they
all offer an entry level package with download speeds of upto 6Mbps
and a limit of 4Gb a month.
Digiweb charge €39.95 a month with an installation and
hardware fee of €249
Onwave price is €22.49 per month with an installation charge
of €249 (Alternatively you could pay an installation charge of €449
then pay €17.49 a month)
Tooway price is €29.95 a month with a hardware fee of
€229.95 (not incl installation) and a connection fee of €29.99.
Installation by them is extra - they suggest you can do it yourself
. (I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you are doing )
