The main city in the County is Limerick City. Other principal towns are Newcastle West, Kilmallock, Abbeykeale and Rathkeale. The University ensures a good rental market - and house prices have risen in line with most of the country in recent years.
The population of County Limerick is just over 165,000. Agriculture is strong in Limerick - dairying, tillage, mushroom growing, forestry, nurseries, beef and poultry all contribute to the agricultural economy of Limerick. The main industries in the county are engineering, aluminium production, electronics, food production, automotive parts and tourism. The National Technological Park has been developed by the IDA and Shannon Development. Over 90 businesses, employing over 3,000 people have their base here in an area of 1.4 million square feet.
The overseas companies include Dell Computers (who are leaving soon) , Johnson & Johnson, Cabletron Systems and Vistakon.
