County Leitrim:
This is a county that enjoys the best of both worlds - the buzz of the 21st Century world with its technology and e-commerce and the gentle hum of the rural world that isnt in a rush. In Leitrim, you are never far from a large urban centre. Dublin is only 2 hours away by train and Galway is only 2-2½ hours drive. The entire county has a population of less than 26,000 (2002 Census), with the spectacular mountainous area of North Leitrim being sparsely populated. Leitrim is becoming an increasingly popular tourism destination, especially for cruisers on the Shannon and the Shannon-Erne Waterway. Leitrim has also become a haven for artists, sculptors and designers, whose work is marketed nationally and internationally through 'Leitrim Design House' and 'Visual Leitrim'

Leitrim is Ireland's least populated county and has suffered a 8.2 per cent drop in property asking prices over the last three months of 2008. This has taken the overall fall in prices to 19.5 per cent since the peak of the property boom. Local estate agents suggest that a large amount of unsold housing stock remains in the market. The average asking price for a house in Leitrim in JAn 2009 is now just over €202,000. Places like Dromohair and Mohill have experienced an 80 per cent drop in the number of sales, with agents pointing to €180,000 valued homes now on the market at €150,000.
