County Laois Property

As with the rest of the country, Co Laois’s housing market was rocked by shattered consumer confidence and a scarcity of credit. It is hoped that 2011 year will see increased buyer activity
Estate Agents are saying that prices have dropped to such an extent that the return for investors is better than it has been for many years. The majority of investors who bought in 2010 made cash purchases.
Rents held steady and are unlikely to fall this year.

While the average price drop registers at about 12%, one-bedroom apartments have seen 40% reductions, while three-bedroom homes in towns have seen little or no change.

Portlaoise has been an attractive location for investors because of its proximity to Dublin. There are also a high number of civil servant and semi-state jobs in the town. The principal towns are Portlaoise, Portarlington, Mountmellick, Abbeyleix, Mountrath, Rathdowney, Durrow.
