Roscommon is one of the cheapest counties in Ireland to buy property.
Many recent tax relief scemes have come to an end - but prices have fallen
a lot since 2006 - which is good for potential bargain hunters. There
were many estates built on the back of tax reliefs - and many of these
are empty and unsold. The big drop in value of these houses in unwanted
estates has made the average house price fall look bigger overall .
Good quality houses in towns and rural areas seem to have retained more
value. The local market usually determines rural sales - with local couples
getting married and needing a home. In many cases - building a house is
no longer the cheap option - and buying a good quality second hand home
that has been well finished and is ready to move into can be a better
